Charlotte jobbt in einem Plattenladen. Nach einer Begegnung mit einem Charlie-Parker-Fan ist sie irritiert. In ihr werden Fragen laut, ihr Leben erscheint ihr mit einem Mal angepasst und bedeutungslos, die Beziehung zu ihrem Freund und ihren Eltern oberflächlich. Nachts lernt sie in der U-Bahn-Waschanlage den Musiker Leonard Blau kennen und verliebt sich in ihn. Leonard ist anders als all die anderen, voller Geheimnisse und verrückter Ideen. Leonard Blau ist ein Außenseiter, der sich nicht anpassen will. Bei seinen Mitmenschen stößt er oft an und löst Verständnislosigkeit aus. Er selbst ist davon zunehmend verunsichert, weil er von Ängsten geplagt wird, deren Ursprung er nicht kennt. Aber es gibt einen Engel, der über ihn wacht, der Engel sieht aus wie Allen Ginsberg. Charlotte spürt schnell, dass mit Leonard etwas nicht stimmt, aber sie liebt ihn, sie will diese amour fou leben. Leonard kommt für kurze zeit in die Psychiatrie und wird mit Tabletten ruhiggestellt. Das verändert ihn, bis er mit Charlottes Hilfe die Tablettentherapie abbricht. Kurze Zeit später entdeckt er ein dunkles Geheimnis, das ihn zerstört. Jetzt kann ihn niemand mehr helfen. keine Charlotte und kein Allen Ginsberg.
Charlotte temps in a record shop. After meeting a Charlie Parker fan she is confused. Questions are being raised in her mind, and all of a sudden her life strikes her as customized and mediocre, the relationship with her friend Albert and her parents as superficial. One night she comes to know the musician Leonard Blau and falls in love with him. Leonard is quite unlike other people, mysterious and full of crazy ideas. An outsider who does not want to conform. He often offends those around him provoking a lack of understanding. Increasingly, he feels at a loss himself, as he is plagued by fears the origins of which he is ignorant of. But for all that there is an angel watching over him, and looking like Allen Ginsberg. Charlotte is rapidly feeling that something is wrong with Leonard, but she is willing to live this love. Having discovered an atrocious secret, Leonard is in danger to space out further into the gloomy depths of his psyche.
Can Charlotte bring it off, drawing him out of the shadows of his past?
